Record Temps Causing Localized Flooding

(Dickinson, ND) — Unseasonably warm temperatures are speeding up snowmelt in North Dakota and leading to localized flooding. The southwestern part of the state experienced record highs yesterday, cutting into the snowpack and swamping some roads. The Red River Valley in eastern North Dakota is facing a strong threat of flooding, with officials and residents filling sandbags this week. No major flooding is expected in the west, due mostly to dry soil from prolonged drought conditions.
