Respiratory Illness Affecting Dogs In Fargo-Moorhead

(Fargo, ND) — Veterinarians in the Fargo-Moorhead area are warning local pet owners about a respiratory illness affecting dogs. The first cases were reported this spring, and it was initially referred to as “kennel cough.” However, vets say C-I-R-D-C, which is an acronym for “canine infectious respiratory disease complex” is a better descriptor. This is because it’s an umbrella term for a variety of viruses and bacteria that cause respiratory infections in dogs. Experts say the recent strains are highly contagious, and advise people to keep their dogs away from other dogs if they have a persistent cough.
