Roosevelt Statue Will Not Be Displayed

(Medora, ND) — The Equestrian Statue of Theodore Roosevelt will not be displayed publicly at the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. The statue features Roosevelt on horseback with a Native American man and a Black man on either side. It had long stood outside the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Three years ago the presidential library requested the statue’s removal and it is now in the museum’s custody. Officials say the statue communicates a racial hierarchy the Museum which will open in Medora had long found disturbing.
