(Bismarck, ND) — Bismarck police are searching for a scam caller who’s been using a Bismarck police officer’s name. The caller claims a Sergeant Gardiner will arrest people on warrants if they do not pay a fee. The department released a statement on their Facebook page saying they don’t have a Sergeant Gardiner, and that Lieutenant Gardiner isn’t looking to arrest anyone on a warrant. Scammers often use names from police departments and ask people to pay them with gift cards. However, bond cannot be paid with gift cards and no officer would ask for gift cards for any kind of payment.
