(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota’s new mandatory seat belt law will go into effect on August 1st. The law requires any occupant inside a vehicle to wear a seat belt, and allows law enforcement to pull over vehicles if they spot a seatbelt violation. North Dakota Department of Transportation data indicates that nearly 70 percent of fatal crashes in the state in 2022 involved people not wearing seatbelts. The new law will go into effect at the start of an aggressive statewide traffic enforcement program called “Summer H.E.A.T.”
