Substation Attack Suspect Caused 4-Million Dollars In Damage

(Ray, ND) — Monetary damage estimates have been released after a power substation attack that happened earlier this year. Canadian citizen Cameron Monte Smith is accused of causing four-million dollars in damage to the Wheelock Substation near Ray. According to law enforcement, he allegedly fired multiple shots into the substation back in mid-May, and the motive behind the attack remains unknown. Smith has been charged with multiple crimes, including federal charges for destroying an energy facility. At a recent detention hearing, a judge ordered that Smith is to remain in custody until his trial.
