(Bismarck, ND) — Two members of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa have won seats in the North Dakota Legislature. Democrats Richard Marcellais and Jayme Davis will be representing District 9 in the state Senate. Marcellais says they “made history” Tuesday with the all-Native delegation. Democrat Collette Brown of the Spirit Lake Nation appears to have won a House seat in District 9, but the North Dakota Monitor says she won by a slim margin that may be close enough for a recount.
