Walhalla Dinosaur Fossil Is Newly-Discovered Species

(Walhalla, ND) — Researchers have confirmed that a dinosaur fossil found near Walhalla years ago is a newly discovered species. The discovery was made in 2015, and it took repeat excavations and painstaking cleaning to uncover all the pieces of the fossil. Analysis of the fossil led experts to conclude it belonged to a pre-historic, carnivorous aquatic lizard. Scientists have decided to name the species Jormungandr walhallaensis (yore-mung-gander walhalla-ehn-sis), a clear reference to nearby Walhalla. The fossil is currently housed in the state fossil collection in Bismarck.
