(Bismarck, ND) — The Williams County Sheriff’s Office says it has helped put two men in prison responsible for elderly scams totaling thousands of dollars. The department says they originally brought the case to the FBI last year when a local victim was scammed. The U.S. Attorney’s Office says the scammers were posing as U.S. military officials on social media, starting fake romantic relationships to receive thousands of dollars in monetary gifts. The scam was traced back to two men in Maryland, who now have been sentenced to 25 months and ten months of imprisonment respectively.
