Woolly Mammoth Tusk, Bones Found At North Dakota Mine

(Beulah, ND) — Workers at the Freedom Mine near Beulah made an important geological discovery this year; the remains of a prehistoric Woolly Mammoth. The coal miners found the remains over Memorial Day weekend, though the discovery hasn’t been publicly announced until now. A well-preserved seven-foot tusk and more than twenty bones were unearthed at the site, and experts are calling it one of the most complete mammoth bone discoveries in state history. The mammoth tusk and bones have since been sent to the paleontology laboratory at the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck.
