World War II Veteran Identified As North Dakota Native

(Bismarck, ND) — The remains of a U.S. Navy World War II veteran have been identified as a North Dakota native. Navy Fireman First Class Edward D. Johnson of Herdsfield was serving on the USS Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked on December 7th of 1941. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency reports Johnson’s remains were accounted for in 2020. DNA technology was used to identify him. Johnson will be buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as the Punchbowl, next month.
