Year’s First Anthrax Case Reported

(Grant County, ND) — The first case of anthrax in 2023 has been reported in North Dakota. Anthrax is a rare and dangerous bacteria that produces spores, which can cause deadly infections if inhaled by humans or animals. Livestock are vulnerable to the bacteria, and the North Dakota Department of Agriculture says one case has been confirmed in a Grant County beef herd. The department says vaccines are available for livestock, though are reminding the public that it takes a week for immunity set in.
