(Des Moines, IA) — Sixty percent of Iowans say they support letting teachers carry firearms on school grounds. That’s according to the latest Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll, which found 38 percent of the state’s residents oppose it. The poll comes two months after the deadly school shooting in Perry, Iowa, that left one student and the principal dead. A proposal passed by the Iowa House would let teachers carry if they undergo annual training and give legal immunity to teachers in school shootings.
