Complaint Lodged Against Knudsen, Primary Opponent

(Helena, MT) — Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen is the subject of a campaign complaint. The complaint was lodged earlier this month by a leader of the Montana Democratic party, accusing Knudsen of recruiting a primary opponent in an effort to get bigger donations. A recording published by the Daily Montanan appears to have Knudsen saying he asked somebody to run against him because the state’s campaign laws are “ridiculous.” Donors can only give to a candidate once if they are unopposed in the race, but can give twice if they have an opponent in the primary election. His opponent, Daniels County Attorney Logan Olson, has not reported raising or spending money as of last week.
