(Lincoln, NE) — A bill that would ban most abortions in Nebraska is dead. Lawmakers announced yesterday that efforts to end a filibuster against Legislative Bill 626 failed by a single vote. The bill would have banned most abortions in the state once embryonic cardiac activity can be detected, which usually happens around six weeks of pregnancy. If enacted, the measure introduced by Senator Joni Albrecht would have prohibited doctors from performing abortions if cardiac activity was detected in an embryo during an ultrasound.
