(Silver Bay, MN) — The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is still working to assess the environmental damage caused by a diesel fuel spill in Lake Superior. The Coast Guard says nearly 400 gallons of fuel spilled during a Wednesday fuel transfer between a barge and a tug boat near Silver Bay Marina. Initial reports estimated the spill was between 75 and 100 gallons. Crews were working yesterday to separate the two vessels, contain the spill and recover the fuel from the lake. The MPCA says assessing the potential damage caused by the spill remains a priority.
