(Helena, MT) — Governor Greg Gianforte is formally requesting help for one of Montana’s largest lakes. Gianforte yesterday submitted a System Operational Request to the Columbia River Technical Management Team, which includes Fish and Wildlife and the Bureau of Reclamation. He’s asking the group to consider releases from the Hungry Horse Reservoir to Flathead Lake, which has seen dropping water levels this summer. Gianforte has been throwing criticism at federal agencies for what he described as inaction on the lake, despite having the data and authority to do so. Officials believe Flathead Lake could be about 22 inches below full pool this summer.
