(West Yellowstone, MT) — Grizzly bears are going to be moved to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. An agreement was previously reached between the states of Montana and Wyoming to move the large animals to the region from the North Continental Divide Ecosystem one or two bears at a time. The idea behind the arrangement is to help remove Endangered Species Act protections and show the states are capable of supervising the bear population. An official for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks told the Daily Montanan they will make the effort with human assistance until it takes place “regularly” and “naturally.” Both sides hope to begin the effort this summer.
