Group Sues Montana Over Drag Ban

(Butte, MT) — A group is suing Montana over legislation that made the state the first to ban drag queen story hour. The lawsuit was filed yesterday in Butte by transgender woman Adria Jawort, along with bookstore owners, educators and more. It claims the bill, signed by Governor Greg Gianforte in May, is “impermissibly vague” and violates the First Amendment, among other things. Republicans in the state legislature pushed the measure through both houses because they found the events to be inappropriate for children. The bill would fine violators thousands of dollars and teachers could be suspended.
