Iowa Democrats Using Mail-In Ballots During Caucus Would Trigger A New Hampshire Law

(Des Moines, IA) — New Hampshire Secretary of State David Scanlan says they would jump the Iowa caucuses if the Iowa Democratic Party moves forward with their caucus-by-mail plan. New Hampshire must be the nation’s first presidential primary by state law, and in an email written to New Hampshire Republican Party Chair Chris Ager, Scanlan says the state would consider a mail-in caucus to be a primary. Under Iowa state law, the Iowa caucuses must be the first in the nation. A proposal in the Iowa House would require the state’s caucuses be in-person.
