Iowa Will Ban Most Abortions After 6 Weeks Starting Monday

(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa’s law banning most abortions after six weeks will go into effect Monday, following the denial of Planned Parenthood’s request for a rehearing in court. The legislation, known as the “heartbeat law,” only contains exceptions for cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. Initially passed in 2023, the law has faced legal challenges but will now be enforced in Iowa.
