(Sibley County, MN) — The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is planning to reduce water levels at Clear Lake in Sibley County later this year. The agency says the lake has been overwhelmed by a large population of common carp. The carp are impeding aquatic plant growth and hurting the water quality at the lake. The DNR will reduce the water level by about four feet this spring to reduce the number of carp in the lake. The agency also plans to introduce more walleye, northern pike, yellow perch and bluegill in the lake as a way to help control the carp population.
