Montana Freedom Caucus Wants Special Session On Taxes

(Helena, MT) — A group of Montana Republicans wants the legislature back at the State Capitol to discuss taxes. The Montana Freedom Caucus made a request to the Secretary of State’s Office to poll state lawmakers about a special session to go over an increase in property taxes. That includes clarifying the Department of Revenue’s calculation levying process of mills the state is allowed to collect. The GOP lawmakers also want to come up with a Taxpayer Bill of Rights and return all the surplus tax revenue to Montana’s taxpayers, which they say is more than 230-million dollars in 2023.
