(Helena, MT) — State lawmakers are going to look into the Montana Supreme Court and the judicial branch. Senate President Jason Ellsworth announced yesterday he is forming a committee for what he described as addressing “violations of the state’s constitutional separation of powers.” Ellsworth, a Republican, is appointing all GOP senators to the committee. Among the objectives the committee is tasked with includes coming up with legislation for next year’s session that they claim will “rein in Montana courts’ abuse of power” and establish more oversight of the judiciary. The party explained the committee was brought up after a “series of troubling judicial rulings” at multiple levels.
