(St. Paul, MN) — A move by Republicans to force DFL Senator Nicole Mitchell out of the state Senate has failed. Republicans introduced a motion to expel Mitchell from the Senate yesterday, citing her recent arrest for burglary in Detroit Lakes. The motion was ruled out-of-order by the Senate president and Republicans could not get enough support to overturn the decision. DFL leaders have turned back all attempts to stop Mitchell from voting following her arrest last month, saying any discipline should be carried out by the Senate’s subcommittee on ethics.
