New Gender-Affirming Care Ban in Montana Faces Lawsuit

(Missoula, MT) — The newly-signed law banning gender-affirming care for minors is facing a challenge in court. A pair of families of transgender teenagers and a couple of medical providers filed a lawsuit against the new law in Missoula County District Court yesterday. The lawsuit claims Senate Bill 99 is “unlawful and unconstitutional” and infringes on the rights of Montanans. The plaintiffs also said in the suit this measure “targets transgender people for discriminatory treatment.” Governor Gianforte signed the bill into law last month and is scheduled to begin in October.
