(Helena, MT) — The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation believes the state could be facing “widespread drought” by August. The agency released its annual report last week showing improving conditions are needed to avoid drought across the Treasure State. The report blamed an unusually low early snowpack and drier than normal June for the current situation, and said a warm and dry July would only make it worse. It also found a big portion of western Montana is currently under moderate to severe drought conditions, while another big part of the state is abnormally dry.
