(Des Moines, IA) — Wildfire smoke from fires in the Western U.S and Canada is reaching throughout the Midwest, as far east as Chicago and Detroit. The Environmental Protection Agency fire and smoke map shows the entire State of Iowa with smoke plumes high in the atmosphere. EPA Air quality sensors show medium density smoke across all but far Northeast Iowa, where it is lighter. Moderate particulate matter could affect people with asthma or other health issues.
