(Helena, MT) — The first openly transgender state lawmaker in Montana is being ignored on the House floor. Speaker Matt Regier decided not to recognize Missoula Democrat Zooey Zephyr yesterday when she tried to speak up about a bill defining sex in the Treasure State. Regier defended his decision, saying he needs “to maintain decorum” in the chamber and won’t recognize representatives who aren’t meeting that criteria. This comes after Zephyr spoke out against Republicans who voted in favor of the bill denying gender-affirming care for minors earlier this week.
