Zooey Zephyr Sues Montana State For Violating First Amendment Rights

(Helena, MT) — The Montana state representative who was punished for speaking out against a bill to ban gender-affirming care is now suing the state. Democrat Zooey Zephyr is also implicating the Montana House Speaker and Sergeant at Arms for the Montana House of Representatives after she was censured by Republicans. Zephyr, who is trans, said in a tweet that the actions violate her First Amendment rights and also her constituents’ rights to representation. In April, Zephyr said legislators would have blood on their hands if they passed the trans youth care ban, language her colleagues felt was too strong and broke House rules of decorum.
