11 Inmates Charged In SD State Penitentiary Disturbance

(Sioux Falls, SD) — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says 11 inmates are going to be charged in last month’s unrest at the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls. Those inmates are accused of everything from assaulting a correctional officer to damaging security gates and starting fires. One inmate, Joshua Vortherms, has been charged with assaulting two corrections officers. The “disturbance” as Jackley called it happened on March 27th and 28th. The AG says they’ve looked hard at attempted murder charges. There are none to this point, however, it is still a possibility that might change.
