Abortion Opponents Continue Fight To Keep Measure Off Ballot

(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota abortion opponents are working with what’s in front of them to prevent a vote on allowing abortion likely to go on the general election ballot. The state Supreme Court ruled that a circuit judge must further consider the challenge to the proposed constitutional amendment alleging Dakotans for Health illegally gathered petition signatures. That means the fight is still on for Life Defense Fund trying to keep the measure off the ballot. The group is led by co-chair Leslee Unruh of Sioux Falls and Republican Representative Jon Hansen of Dell Rapids. Rapid City Attorney Sarah Frankenstein, who represents the Life Defense Fund, says it would be ideal to get a decision before August 13th. Otherwise, different options will still be explored to terminate the measure.
