(Sioux Falls, SD) — The attempted murder trial for two state prison inmates is starting today. Kyle Jones and Lester Monroe are accused of attacking a correctional officer at a Sioux Falls prison in August of 2023. Monroe and Jones are both being charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault against law enforcement. Jury selection was completed on Monday and the trial is expected to start today with opening arguments. According to court documents, Jones and Monroe continuously punched an officer that was being held down for about a minute. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty and both are being represented by court-appointed lawyers.
