(Rapid City, SD) — Black Hills State University is being awarded a grant to address the shortage of STEM teachers in rural areas. The 75-thousand dollar grant from the National Science Foundation is intended to help inspire students from rural and low-income backgrounds to pursue STEM teaching within their areas. The funds will go toward researching the STEM teaching needs of smaller schools and districts. The project may receive up to one-point-two million dollars in additional grant funds to use toward scholarships for STEM education students.
