Bicyclist’s Name Released In Fatal Aberdeen Crash

(Brookings, SD) — The name of an Aberdeen bicyclist who was killed in a crash last week has been released. South Dakota DPS says 65-year-old Roger Genung was struck by a pickup in Aberdeen while riding his bike on the shoulder of 2nd Avenue near North Lincoln Street late Thursday night. DPS stated that the driver, 45-year-old Brandon Ellen Smith, who was uninjured, had been charged with DUI and possession of marijuana when first announcing the crash. Court documents have not yet been filed, but authorities say charges are pending against Smith. The crash remains under investigation.
