Bill That Could Kill Fairview-Sanford Merger Heads To Minnesota Governor

(Sioux Falls, SD) — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is going to decide the fate of the Fairview-Sanford Merger. Minnesota Legislature passed a bill that bans anti-competitive health care mergers that only needs to be signed off by Walz. It would likely end the proposed marriage of Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services and Sioux Falls-based Sanford Health. Attorney General Keith Ellison is already investigating it for potentially breaking antitrust and charity laws. Fairview and Sanford said they intend to continue with the delayed merger despite the legislation.
