Board of Regents Reacts To Noem Budget Cut

(Pierre, SD) — The South Dakota Board of Regents is speaking out about Governor Noem’s substantial funding cut. Noem’s recommended budget for the upcoming legislative session shared last week includes a ten-million-dollar budget cut to the Board of Regents. The state’s BOR Executive Director, Nathan Lukkes, says the annual budget address “wasn’t terribly positive, but also not surprising,” adding he knew money was going to be tight. The bulk of the ten-million-dollar cut would come in the form of more than a nine-million slash in funding for maintenance and repair. The governor’s recommendation for 2025 is nearly a 30-million-dollar difference between the Board of Regents requested budget.
