(Brookings, SD) — A downtown Brookings business is gone after a fire early yesterday morning. The fire broke out at the Brost’s Fashions boutique store. Officials report the flames started in the rear of the business before quickly engulfing the entire building. Crews in and around the area responded to the call just after 5 a.m. Brookings Police Chief Michael Drake says none of the businesses were open at the time, however, people living in the neighboring apartments had to be evacuated and also rescued by first responders. No injuries have been reported so far. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
