Brookings Fire Chief Two Firefighters Hurt In I-29 Crash

(Brookings, SD) — The Brookings Fire Chief is speaking out after two of his firefighters were hurt in a wreck in Brookings. Fire Chief Pete Bolzer says, “A lot of my firefighters tell me they’d rather go into a burning building any day rather than go out to that interstate.” It happened Wednesday along I-29. Officials say a big-rig jack-knifed and crashed into the side of the fire truck. A third car involved in the wreck took off. Officials say the firefighters are just bruised and sore, but they’ll be okay. Bolzer called it a “freak accident,” but is raising concerns that they’re becoming more common with distracted driving being an even greater issue.
