(Yankton County, SD) — Yankton County has a burn ban in effect this weekend. It starts today and will continue through Sunday. According to the Yankton County Emergency Management, no open burning will be allowed for these specific days. Yankton County and other nearby counties are in a very high fire danger because of the drought.
But more wet weather expected to roll through South Dakota this weekend that may have a helpful impact. Most of the state is likely to see rain, potentially some snow, and strong winds by Saturday evening. Southeast winds are going to be responsible for bringing in that moisture. Gusts are projected to pick up at speeds over 50 miles an hour in the next two days.
