(Eagle Butte, SD) — The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is taking action against stray dogs after a child was mauled to death over the weekend. The animal control shelter on the reservation has collected 30 dogs since Wednesday morning. Manager Ethel Morgan says the death of the 9-year-old is tragic and it’s the exact situation she has been trying to prevent. There’s currently eight animal control officers patrolling in pairs to collect dogs. The shelter will contact owners and they have 72-hours to claim their animal before they are processed in the system.
