(Pierre, SD) — The childcare crisis is getting a big boost of support from new grant money. There are 13 state organizations and child care providers that will be receiving their share of nearly four million dollars as part of the governor’s childcare investment plan. Lake Area Improvement Corporation in Madison has been awarded 400-thousand dollars. The organization’s executive director, Brooke Rollag, says the area is “truly in a childcare desert,” and the money will be a significant help. Vermillion Area Chamber and Development Company president and CEO Jim Peterson says they also received the same grant and will put it towards reconfiguring facilities to open up more childcare slots and providing certification training for current and future providers.
