(Pierre, SD) — A South Dakota sculptor is honoring the Lokota Code Talkers with a life-size clay statue. Darwin Wolf says the project has been intimidating, but so far it’s going great. He started the statue depicting one of South Dakota’s Code Talkers last September. According to KELOLAND News, “69 South Dakotans from the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota nations served as Code Talkers during World War One and World War Two.” When the statue is completed, it will be placed at the Capitol Lake in Pierre.
