Crews Respond to ‘Rare’ Fire At Sioux Falls Regional Landfill

(Hartford, SD) — Crews are finished extinguishing a fire that ignited at the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill in Hartford Wednesday night. Multiple fire departments, including Hartford and Sioux Falls, responded to the scene. They arrived between 7:30 and 7:45 p.m. Hartford Area Fire and Rescue Chief Bryon Shumaker said responders had the flames knocked out in about an hour and a half. He added it was rare for a fire to break out at the landfill, and it’s still unclear how it started. No injuries were reported.
