Energy Companies Request Permission To Build 345-Kilovolt Electric Line

(St. Paul, MN) — A group of Midwestern energy companies are asking for permission to build an electric transmission line between South Dakota and Minnesota. The 345-kilovolt line would run from the Big Stone substation in eastern South Dakota to the Big Oaks substation near Becker, Minnesota. The new line would mainly use existing power structures along Interstate 94 between Alexandria and Becker. Companies involved in the project include Green River Energy, Minnesota Power and Xcel Energy. If approved by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, the project could start construction next year.
