(Pierre, SD) — Republican Kristie Fiegen will keep her long-time spot as the leader of the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission. Her re-election for a third term was an easy victory, garnering nearly 70 percent of the vote. Fiegen’s opponents were Democrat Forrest Wilson of Lead and Libertarian Gideon Oakes of Keystone. Neither of them came close in raising funds or making campaign stops this fall. Fiegen was first elected to a full six-year term in 2012 to lead the state’s PUC. The gap between her competition has grown larger each time since, being re-elected in 2018 and now 2024.
