Final Price For New SD Men’s Prison

(Pierre, SD) — Governor Noem’s budget plans to fund 182-million dollars needed to complete the cost of the state’s proposed men’s prison. Noem said yesterday that it’s vital that South Dakota pays for the new facility in cash. According to her, paying cash will save hundreds of millions of dollars in interest, fees, and annual debt service payments. The prison is supposed to be built in Lincoln County between Canton and Harrisburg. It’s guaranteed maximum price is marked at 825-million, and the state has already set aside 567-million. The new prison would replace the one in Sioux Falls that has stood for nearly 150 years.
