Former Oglala Sioux Tribe President Found Guilty

(Rapid City, SD) — Former Oglala Sioux Tribe president Julian Bear Runner is being convicted on several charges. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of South Dakota, he was found guilty of six counts of wire fraud, one for larceny, and one for embezzlement yesterday. The 38-year-old Pine Ridge native fraudulently submitted multiple travel authorizations claiming the need to travel for official business between 2019 and 2020. Bear Runner now faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years for each count of wire fraud, five years for embezzlement, and one year for larceny.
