Former Sioux Falls Mayor Candidate In Jail

(Sioux Falls, SD) — A former candidate for Sioux Falls mayor is now in jail. According to court documents, 62-year-old David Zokaites attempted to strangle a woman and then tried to prevent her from getting help. He’s being charged with aggravated assault and interfering with emergency communication. The man has been in the Minnehaha County jail since Monday night after the alleged incident. Zokaites has run for Sioux Falls mayor twice and even posted on social media that he plans to run again. He most recently ran for a seat on the City Council.
