(Fort Pierre, SD) — The Christmas Tree lighting in Fort Pierre is set for the day after Thanksgiving. Activities on the 29th are set to begin at 4 p.m. with wagon rides and chili tasting. Caroling is scheduled for 6 p.m., followed by the tree lighting at 6:30. The first Christmas tree lighting in Fort Pierre is said to have taken place around 60 or 70 years ago, using trees the fire department brought in from the Black Hills National Forest. There are also reports that Santa Claus will make an appearance.
